Low Back Pain (LBP)

Low Back Pain (LBP)

If you’ve experienced the unwanted effects of low back pain (LBP) you may at least take some solace from knowing you are not alone. As much as 84% of the population are affected, and at any one time 25% of people have LBP.  If you’re one of them, the good news is that most LBP naturally resolves itself within 6 weeks of onset.  However, if your pain persists, then this can become a real burden and may require some expert support from someone specialising in this sometimes complex condition.

One of the challenges with persistent LBP is that there can be multiple contributing factors; from mechanical issues, to nutritional predisposition (some foods can be pro-inflammatory for example), to emotional components (think of the frustration caused by ongoing pain, or the fear associated with aggravating a painful situation) and much more besides.

By working holistically with persistent pain, the situation can generally be easily resolved; with time, dedication and determination.

At Matt Wallden Health & Performance we have worked successfully for many years in helping people to overcome their LBP challenges and return to optimal functioning.  A key element in effectively resolving persistent pain of any kind is to understand that the human body is a system of systems.  The musculoskeletal system is the obvious go-to system to look at, yet when pain persists it is often an indication that there are other systems contributing to it, such as the nervous system, the digestive system, the respiratory system – and even the reproductive system.

If you, or someone you know has pain that hasn’t resolved within 6 weeks, then it is worth looking into the specific stressors on the body’s systems, which we do using a health appraisal questionnaire which screens 28 different organs, glands and systems.

Of course, even if your pain has been present for less than 6 weeks, help is still at hand and a skilled practitioner can help guide you toward a quicker resolution of your pain.  If your pain is very acute and you feel like your back is spasmed, then we have a useful free video here [LINK] with some basic advice to help alleviate the immediate discomfort.  If you’d like to learn more about how we may be able to help you, please feel free to contact us here with any questions you may have.
